Two weeks in, and Juniper Kyz is already creating change. Some of our participants had never run before — now, several are running non-stop for 30–40 minutes, and one has completed her first 7K. Others are steadily building endurance through interval training, alternating walking and running. More than just tracking distance, these young women are discovering their strength, resilience, and the power of community.
Growth On & Off the Track
This week, we focused on building physical and mental foundations:
✅ Many participants completed their first 5K — a huge milestone.
✅ We introduced proper warm-up and cool-down techniques to reduce injury and support recovery.
✅ Our first educational session, led by a local psychologist, addressed mental health, body image, and self-confidence — topics rarely discussed openly in Kyrgyzstan, but essential for young women in sport.
These lessons are about more than training — they’re about empowerment, awareness, and long-term wellbeing.
Team Bonding & Leadership Development
Creating a strong team means more than showing up to train — it means building a culture of support and trust. This week, we introduced:
🎉 A three-legged race to build teamwork, communication, and have a little fun
💬 A session on recovery in sports, led by our co-founder Salima, who shared practical strategies for rest, hydration, stretching, and caring for the body post-run.
This opened up space for participants to reflect on how recovery supports their growth — both physically and mentally
Together, these activities are creating a foundation of sisterhood, leadership, and shared purpose.
Exciting News:
Our First Sponsorship Partnership!
👟 Gear for Every Runner:
We’re thrilled to share that Li-Ning Kyrgyzstan has generously donated 10 pairs of running shoes to our current Juniper Kyz cohort.
Thanks to additional support from our GoFundMe fundraiser, we were able to purchase the remaining pairs — ensuring that every participant has the shoes they need to train safely and confidently.
For many girls in the program, financial barriers have made access to basic athletic gear nearly impossible. This partnership — and the community support behind it — is a meaningful step toward equity and inclusion in sports, and we’re incredibly grateful.
Looking Ahead: What’s Coming in Week 3
🏃♀️ Training to run through the entire session, gradually reducing walking intervals to build endurance and confidence.
🎙️ A workshop by co-founder Nargiza on nutrition, and a guided yoga session with a certified instructor.
👩🏻⚕️ An educational session led by a women’s health expert.
🧠 A team-building event featuring a fun quiz about the Juniper Kyz co-founders, plus a reflective talk where each founder shares her personal journey into running and the challenges she’s overcome.
Each week, we’re seeing more progress, more smiles, and more breakthroughs. The momentum is strong — and this is only the beginning.
